Frost Protection and Thermal Netting
Horticultural fleece provides great frost protection for all your garden crops and plants against the chilly winter conditions. Ground and air frost caused when the temperature drops below 0ºC/32ºF leads to repeated freezing followed by rapid thawing of your frail garden plants, potentially destroying them. Having an effective thermal coat or netting shields plants from the effects of frost damage, maintaining a comfortable internal temperature of around 2ºC.
LBS horticulture stocks thermal crop netting available in various roll sizes, easy fleece jackets for hanging baskets and frost protection fleece with accessories. A cosy horticultural coat can advance maturity or flowering by about two weeks in spring, allow tender crops like bush tomatoes and cucumbers to ripen in late summer and protect autumn sowings over winter to allow earlier crops like carrots and chard to sow earlier than spring.
The porous netting also allows water, light and air to pass through them, simultaneously trapping the essential heat plants need to create a beneficial microclimate. Fleece nettings are very easily put in to place and removed to suit the changing environment. Additionally, horticultural fleece is also very effective in protecting plants from other harsh weather conditions and pests such as hail, wind which causes stress on plant growth and bird and insects notorious for wreaking havoc on crops.
